The City of Delta has recently awarded the construction contract for Phase 1 of the 72 Avenue Roadway Improvements Project, which includes roadway improvements fronting Heath Elementary as well as a new parking lot for the school.
The contractor will be starting construction on the south side of 72 Avenue at Westview Drive and will work their way eastwards up to 115 Street. The contractor will likely be starting construction in front of Heath Elementary in January 2022. On-street parking along the Heath Elementary frontage will not be accessible during construction.
When construction activities are occuring in front of the shcool, the contractor is required to provide a dedicated Traffic Control person to assist vehicles with entering/exiting the school parking lots and with pedestrians crossing 72 Avenue.
During construction the City will make every effort to minimize the inconvenience to school users, however, with work of this nature, some inconvenience will be unavoidable and we ask parents to allow more time in the mornings and afternoon for pick-up and drop-off activities.
Parking Lot Improvements:
A parking lot expansion on the west side of the school will be constructed during the summer break in 2022, which is being funded by the Delta School District and delivered by the City of Delta. Once the new parking lot is constructed, parents will see an increase in parking capacity, improved circulation, and improved safety with a new traffic signal at 113 Street to replace the existing pedestrian activated signal.
